How Tai Chi Really begins.
Recently, I've been thinking a lot about the practice.
About how much emphasis is placed on the doing.
About how, by turning off our minds, our body and breath can emerge.
And thats how it should be.
But, there is a special moment we sometimes overlook, sometimes skip altogether.
A moment in which we pause, we let go and open ourselves to something else.
And at that very moment, when we take out the time to observe, the entire universe rushes into the vacuum we have created.
It is this approach, this practice, these ways we observe that I want to explore with you, these moments that give quality to the things we do. Whatever your level - whether you have stumbled across tai chi today, or been practising a decade - come with me and explore this Tai Chi approach:
- Sometimes it is found in the way we choose to start
- Sometimes it is found beneath out feet
- Sometimes it is found in the circulation of air
But it's not in the hours we put in, or the number of repetitions we perform, the number of classes we attend or the number postures we practice - it is not quantitive issue but one of quality.
And it starts before we begin.
